”Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us”
Is there a problem in your life that seems insurmountable?
Are there situations that appear to be impossible to turn around?
Well, then you probably need to pray Prayers of Petition.
Most people know, and believe that prayer is an integral part of a fulfilled Christian life. What some people do not know, however, is that there are different types of prayers for different situations, and the Prayer of Petition is one of the most effective form of prayer when it comes to bringing about quick changes in your life, especially if you need the answer fast.
Generally, there are 3 main categories of prayers. Firstly, there is the prayer that changes things. There is also the prayer of thanksgiving, as well as the prayer of dedication. The Prayer of petition belong to the first category.
Perhaps you are facing a financial crisis, maybe you need to restore a broken relationship, or perhaps you need an outright healing miracle. Whatever it is, if you have a need, God has the answer for it, and the petition prayer is the best way to co-operate with God and receive what He has in stored for you.
So how do you pray a Prayer of Petition?
Well, it can be as simple as stating your situation to God, and agreeing with what the Word of God says about it. A petition prayer, simply put, is a formal request to God regarding a situation you need help with. However, the mistake most people make, is that they simply keep stating how bad their plight is, and attempt to plead God into taking action. Yet, this kind of prayer rarely, if ever brings about results (and isn’t results what we are looking for when we pray prayers of petition?).
What then, is the right way to pray a petition prayer? Well, God’s Word says that when you pray, you should pray in confidence that God hears you, and that He will answer you as long as you pray according to His will.
God wants you to be Saved, Healthy, Prosperous, and Happy. Therefore, whenever you make a petition, never doubt the Will of God. It IS His Will to heal you, prosper you, and give you the desires of your heart. Therefore, when you pray, you should pray with utter and complete confidence that your prayer is answered.
If you will just focus on this one Truth, you will find that more and more of your petitions are answered, and in shorter and shorter time spans.
What makes it so powerful?
The power of a Prayer of Petition lies in 3 major sources:
Firstly, when Jesus gave you the right to use His name, he gave you more than just a cliché way to end a prayer. Remember, the Name of Jesus is above ALL other names. This means that no matter what the name of your problem is, be it ‘debt’, ‘sickness’, ‘depression’, or any other condition, it is still subjugated to the Name of Jesus. And just as Jesus calmed the storm, you too can create peace out of any problem you are facing by using the Name of Jesus.
On top of that, God has also clearly stated out His Will to help you in His Word. Whatever your situation is, take a look into the Bible, and I’m sure you will be able to find relevant verses that speak to your situation and show you how God has promised to deliver you from your problem. God has said that His Word will not return to Him void. By agreeing with His Word, you are in effect providing the faith necessary to make it come to pass in your own life.
Lastly, the Holy Spirit is always present to help you and give you both the utterance and power for your prayer. In fact, it is the Holy Spirit that gives power to the Words of your prayer, and make it real in Your life.
Remember, God has already answered your prayer of petition through Jesus’ work. Will you give Him enough credit to take Him at His Word

Today's Verse
Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
Life seems so busy, so full of distractions and "to do" lists. Let's not let our "busyness" keep us from our Father's "business." Let's find the ways God has gifted us to serve him and his people; then let's dedicate ourselves to that with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
My Prayer...
Gracious God, you have blessed me in so many different ways. Thank you for all these touches of your grace. But Father, I need your help to more clearly see how you have gifted me to serve you and to more passionately make that service a key priority in my life each day. Thank you for always hearing my prayers. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
— 1 Peter 5:5 (NIV)
Thoughts on Today's Verse...
The word "submissive" is often positive or negative based on its relationship to us personally. It's nice having someone serve us submissively, but serving someone else submissively is hard work. Unfortunately, we are selfish way too much of the time. But God is at work in direct opposition to anyone who is full of pride and unwilling to serve others, especially if those "others" are older believers! Whether it's easy to wear the clothes our Father demands or not, we are to intentionally clothe ourselves with humility!
My Prayer...
Father, thank you so much for the great heroes of faith listed in Scripture. Thank you for those other heroes of faith who have shared their examples and lives with me. Bless them with strength and health. And Father, please use me to bless and to serve all of your children, especially those who have lived many years in faithful service to you and your Kingdom. Because of the grace of Jesus, and in his name I pray. Amen.

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit."
John 3:5, New International Version
Water and Spirit -- they track together as key components in conversion and the new birth throughout the New Testament. One is an act of submission and surrender. The other is a gift and reminder that only God can make us new by his power. No wonder Jesus made them so important to being a part of his Kingdom.
Holy and righteous Father, I acknowledge that my best efforts often fail and my consistency isn't always consistant. That's why I'm so thankful you have given me your grace in Jesus and made me new by my spiritual birth into your family. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.
Jeremiah 10:23, New International Version
Thoughts on Todays Verse
While we may have goals and a sense of mission about our lives, our lives are not really ours to plan. Every day must be greeted as a gift from God. Every goal must ultimately be pursued to his glory. Every true sense of direction is a gift to us from our Father's Word or his Spirit.
My Prayer
Wise and loving Father, lead me by your Holy Spirit. Fill me with your holy wisdom. Guide me into a more complete understanding of your will for my life. Please give me the wisdom to live each day with character and holy grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
